Educares supported by Starting Chance win top Provincial awards in early childhood education!
In 2017, teachers from two Mfuleni educares supported by Starting Chance won top awards for excellence in early childhood education. Nozipho (right) of Blooming Stars Educare was named the top ECD practitioner in the informal category in the Western Cape. There were 300 contestants. Virginia (left) shared second place. The Mfuleni Centre for Early Childhood Development run by Principal Sandra Lucas (middle left) was named one of the top 10 informal ECD centres in the Western Cape. At today’s celebration with the Starting Chance team Sandra, who chairs the Mfuleni ECD Forum, said “We want to see more ECDs from Mfuleni at this years awards, donors need to see the impact that they are having in our community. I hope our success will encourage other Principals to enter their schools”.
Nozipho, Philiswa (Principal of Blooming Stars), Virginia and Sandra were quick to acknowledge the contribution that Starting Chance has made to the development of staff and the improvement of the learning environment.
Nozipho will travel to Johannesburg in early March to represent Western Province at the National awards ceremony – exciting times indeed!
